Description

This Boeing (initially McDonnel Douglas) Rocket was built in response to the higher mass payloads in the spacecraft market. Built to haul 3.8 metric tons to Geostationary transfer orbit, this featured a shorter but wider 1st stage kerosene fuel tank than the Delta 2, allowing the same amount of fuel. It included upgraded SRBs, and a cryogenic upperstage, instead of Hypergolic mixtures used by the Delta 2. The Delta 3’s first launch ended in destruction of the rocket 73 seconds in the flight due to a faulty guidance system. The Galaxy 10 Comsat was lost. In the second launch, the Orion 3 spacecraft was placed into a useless parking orbit due to a defect. The last launch carrying a dummy spacecraft was succesful, but the Delta IV was developed, and replaced the Delta 3.

A stock rocket called Delta 3 and Galaxy 10. Built with 151 of the finest parts, its root part is liquidEngineMini.

Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.0.0.
