Description
The last variant of SLS planned to be developed, the Block 2. The Block 2 replaces the 5 segment Shuttle SRBs for new next generation solid boosters. The boosters allow the vehicle to send up to 130 tons to LEO, more than enough for any future Mars missions. It’s main function will be to send heavy payloads to the surface of Mars such as landers, outposts, and rovers. This vehicle is carrying the Deep Space Transport which will actually be launched on an SLS 1B but it seemed like a cool payload.
The vehilce has the EUS just as the block 1B and it’s robust as ever.
The Deep Space Transport is a interplanetary vehicle designed at NASA and is capable of taking a crew of 4 to and from Mars and Venus. It was designed to be manufactured using the same tooling structures as the SLS’s core stage. It has both chemical and electric propulsion to help maximize it;s effectiveness. The chemical propulsion is used for most of the initial Earth to Mars burn and the solar electric propulsion (SEP) system is used for the last half. Chemical is than used to brake into Mars orbit. After that SEP will be used for the rest of the journey. Although it is planned to be launched in the late 2020s, that does not seem likely.
Just like my Super Detailed Saturn V, this vehicle is as accurate as possible to the real thing. I tried my best to get TWR and burn time correct as well as making capable of flying an accurate flight plan.
Controls:
2- toggle solar panels
3- toggle chemical propulsion
4- toggle solar electric propulsion
5- toggle DST RCS
The boosters look really good with restock but should still look fine stock.
Development time was about an hour but this is the culmination of several previous attempts.
A stock rocket called Detailed SLS Block 2 + Deep Space Transport. Built with 157 of the finest parts, its root part is fairingSize3.
Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.8.1.
