Description

Not so little.

Update 1.2: Better tail placement, added stability fins for final stage

Smaller then its bigger brother the Eve Return 1.3 This can only transport 6 Kerbals and not 17, but the Little Eve Return launches from VAB with added boosters that allow for no need for orbital refueling and can travel directly to Eve. Once on Eve though you will need to refuel it somehow and from there it can only make it to Eve orbit after staging all stages. It has at least 200 m/s of delta-v from taking off from beach level (but not sea level, can’t take off from the sea!) to a 100 km orbit, more residual delta-v when entering orbit from higher take-off altitudes.

  • Stagable Extras: optional module, remove it if you don’t need ladders or turn control on Eve’s surface or radiator.

  • Guidance Pod: allows for Kerbal-less control, remove it if you expect to have pilots aboard going to Eve.

From Kerbin to Eve
1. When going to orbit only stage off the orange strap on boosters, make sure fuel cross feed is on. Let strap on engines run empty.
2. From Kerbin orbit enter a low energy transfer orbit to Eve at appropriate transfer window.
3. Enter High Eve orbit by using core engines to decelerate.
4. Aerobrake to Low Eve orbit by skimming the atmosphere at periapsis of ~80 km with a pitch of 60° will all remaining fuel moved up forward to bow fuel tanks.
5. From a orbit lower than 200 km apoapsis and periapsis of ~60 km you can enter with a 20° and not burn anything off.
6. Glide down at -20°
7. Land at -5° pitch and <50 m/s, do not land at sea, not designed for sea landing!

From Eve Surface to Eve Orbit
1. When pointed in desired direction to enter orbit, turn off brakes and power all engines on.
2. It should take off above 70 m/s by lowering slates.
3. Pitch to 20° Retract Slates and rise landing gear and eject the extras module.
4. Gently pitch up to 45°-60° without losing air speed.
5. Jettison strapped-on engines when those tanks run empty between 45°-60° pitch.
6. Stage when rocketplane stage runs out of fuel, keep going to >100 km orbit and circularize.

A stock rocket called Little Eve Return 1.2. Built with 150 of the finest parts, its root part is mk2Cockpit.Inline. Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.7.2.
