Description
The final version… hopefully
Update 8.1: Parachutes and Landing Thrusters weight balanced to nearly empty mass
- Can carry 0-5 Kerbals, is capable of autonomous flight.
- Capable of full abort at any time of flight to orbit.
- Can bring Kerbals to and from orbit, Minmus or Mun.
- Comes with ‘Mun Landing Tank’ fuel for moon landings.
- Plenty of space for other cargo under fairing.
- Booster can bring it to mun transfer orbit.
- Needs only 2 side-boosters for a missions to and from Mun orbit or Minmus surface (remove Mun Landing Tank)
- Can land on runway or sea without parachutes.
- Comes with parachutes for rough terrain landings / being lazy, use RCS to reduce landing velocity.
- Can take-off horizontally from Mun or Minmus using RCS.
- Comes with Semi-universal docking port with guiding light.
- Fits inside Mk3 Cargo Bays.
- Can survive atmospheric entry velocities < 4 km/s, but can attach heat shield to docking port for atmospheric entry from interplanetary velocities.
Procedures
Re-entry Hit atmosphere in orbital radial out orientation with bottom surface towards prograde, slows like a capsule, once below 1000 m/s you can fly about like a plane by pointing it in prograde orientation.
Landing on Runway: Extend landing gear. Lock brakes. Land at velocities below 70:5 (horizontal:vertical) m/s. Have 0° ± 5° pitch (be as horizontal as possible) when the gear hit the runway so as to prevent bouncing and flopping over or side skiding.
Landing on Land: Extend landing gear. Lock brakes. Or use parachutes, landing gear and RCS thrusters to slow down before hitting the surface.
Landing at Sea: hit water at velocities below 70:5 (horizontal:vertical) m/s, with pitch of 0°± 5°. Or use parachutes and pitch down with RCS to hit the water with the nose and not the tail to prevent engine damage.
Landing on & taking off from Mun: Dock with luner lander tank when transfering to mun orbit. Enter mun orbit on orbiter engines, deorbit where desired. when 100-300 m above the surface and zero velocity, switch to command orientation and flip to a horizontal pitch, use RCS motors to land. Take off with RCS lift motors and switch on main engines, once extra fuel tank is empty discard it on way to orbit by detaching from port and RCS above it.
Landing on & taking off from Minmus: No need for extra fuel tank. Come down to 50-150 m above the surface and zero velocity, switch to command orientation and flip to a horizontal pitch, use RCS motors to land. Take off with RCS motors and switch on main engines.
A stock rocket called Kream Katcher 8.1. Built with 90 of the finest parts, its root part is Mark2Cockpit. Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.12.1.
