Details
- Type: VAB
- Class: probe
- Part Count: 38
- Pure Stock
- KSP: 1.10.1
1: Before you launch, enter the tracking station and time warp (,
.
and /
) to Year 2, Day 160 - 1h, 10m. Then launch the craft. Once the rocket loads on the pad, hit T, Z, and Space. That’s all.
2: See the green Liquid Fuel gauge on the left? As soon as it is empty and the rocket engine turns off, press the Space Bar. You will need to do this again once the second stage is empty.
3: Okay. Once you’ve jettisoned all your boosters, you should have a probe that looks like this once you deploy the antenna. Then press M to switch to map view.
4: Once in map view, zoom way, way out until you can see the purple planet. Click on it and then click focus view. Zoom in until you can see your trajectory line. Now is the super tricky part. Press R. This will make it so you can adjust your trajectory. The controls are H, N, J, L, K, and I. Try pushing various ones (probably H or N) until you see your Pe number going down. Make it go down until it is within 1000 of 60,000.
5: Time warp until you get to the beginning pf your Eve trajectory line. Then stop warping. During time warp, your trajectory may have been messed up, so make sure your Pe number is near 60,000. Then, press M again to get out of map view. There are a bunch of red buttons next to the NavBall. Press the one that says Retrograde, and then click on your speed until it says Surface. This should make your craft move around a bit.
6: Once your altitude (top center) is at 120000, retract the antenna. You are now prepared for Eve atmospheric entry. It will begin when your altitude is at 90000. Some little things on the heatshield will explode, but don’t worry because you don’t need them anymore.

7: This is what atmospheric entry will look like. It will be scary and explosive, but you will survive as long as your antenna is retracted, the Retrograde button is green (not red), and your speed says Surface.
8: Once the probe has fallen to 10000 m, right click on the parachute button on the left and then deploy it. You will then drift safely, calmly, and slowly down towards the surface. Feel free to use timewarp above 50 m.
9: Once you’ve landed, deploy the antenna so you have signal to Kerbin. There are four science modules on the probe if you want to do some science. Congratulations on your first interplanetary landing!
