The Lockheed NF-104 was a supersonic experimental aircraft built in the 1960s, running parallel to the X-15 and Dyna-Soar programs. Three were built, modified from the high-performance F-104 interceptor.

The aircraft uses both rocket and jet power to reach an altitude of 36 kilometers, where it falls unpowered before restarting its jet engine for a return flight. This is understandably even riskier than the already notorious basic airframe. One example was lost in 1963 when it went into a flat-spin during its descent; the incident was popularized in a movie adaptation of Tom Wolfe’s The Right Stuff.

This is a fully-stock recreation of the aircraft. (Seriously, there are better ones out there, for this is just my second attempt at one.)
