NOTE: A joystick is recommended for better control of this craft.

The X-15 further tested an airfoil layout pioneered by the X-9, in which the fuselage and wings form a single continuous lifting body to increase total lift and maneuverability. The X-15 had exceptional short-takeoff-and-landing (STOL) performance, with nearly identical flight performance of the X-13. The aircraft was somewhat unstable, requiring SAS to be enabled to maintain control. The X-15 was capable of extremely tight turns at low speed, but pilots had to use caution due to the aircraft’s tendancy to depart from controlled flight during high angle-of-attack maneuvers.
