A stock aircraft called NK-12 Engine Pack. Built with 378 of the finest parts, its root part is structuralIBeam2.
Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.3.1.
For those times when need more power, or you’re building your own strategic bomber NK-12 is right choice.
Pack contains 2 versions of the engine, with 3 bladed propellers for high speed at low altitude and with 4 bladed propellers for a more balanced performance.
To use these engines choose one of them and save it as a subassembly, then open up your craft and just add the engine to it. After that right click on the fairing base, select edit fairing and then just close back the last fairing section. This is to ensure that engine will work properly.
If you’re building the aircraft with 2 or more engines, don’t use symmetry when adding the engines. Instead add the engines one by one, with the left hand propeller on one side and right hand propeller on the opposite side. Once again you’ll have to edit the fairing on each engine you’ve added to ensure that all of them will work properly.
After this your plane should be ready to fly, once it is on the runway:
- engage the brakes,
- use the action group 0 to decouple the propeller from the craft,
- use the [ ] keys to switch to the propeller,
- use either Alt+Q or Alt+E to give the propeller full trim to the left or right,
- repeat last 2 steps until all propellers are running at full speed,
- use the [ ] keys to switch back to the airplane,
- disengage the brakes and takeoff.
Once the plane is in the air and it have reached speed of 70-100m/s switch to the propeller and use action group 1 to toggle the blade pitch. This will allow the plane to reach higher speeds.
For landing switch to the propeller and then use Alt+X to reset the trim on the propeller, then switch back to the plane and land.
