Description

A stock helicopter called H-21 Frelon. Built with 159 of the finest parts, its root part is fairingSize1.

Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.7.2.

First of all I must thank the https://kerbalx.com/FooFighter for figuring out how to create a working swashplate with the new robotic parts, and also for suggesting to use a single swashplate to control blade pitch on both rotors.

H-21 Frelon is stock helicopter with coaxial rotors, with a working swashplate and colletive. Additionaly yaw is controlled by decreasing the rpm on the rotors. Thanks to these features helicopter flies and behaves like the real helicopter with coaxial rotors, also it doesn’t use any reaction wheels.

Helicopter can transport up to 8 Kerbals. Max. speed if you’re using only the rotors is about 25-30 m/s and if you activate the jet engine max. speed in level flight is ~ 60 m/s.

Flying instructions:
- before takeoff right click on and pin the piston in the rotors, and also one of the engines on running each rotor, this is in order to have visual information about the collective (piston extension) and engine torque and rpm,
- press 1 to engage the main engines and the fuel cell,
- use I and K to set the engine torque to about 80%,
- wait for the engine rpm to reach 190-200 rpm,
- use the H and N to control the collective (piston extension), 0.30 is neutral blade pitch, anything bellow that will give you positive blade pitch,
- for takeoff you should set the collective 0.24 or 0.21,
- for a really fast takeoff, set the collective to neutral, wait for the engine rpm to get above 220 rpm and then quickly set the collective to 0.15,
- collective set to > 0.30 will give you negative blade pitch, this should be used for landings and reducing the altitude,
- to land reduce the speed and use the collective to reduce the altitude,
- try to keep horizontal speed under 10 m/s and vertical speed no more than 5 m/s,
- after touchdown engage the wheel brakes and set collective to 0.40, this will create negative lift on the rotors and it will keep the helicopter firmly on the ground, also it will help you to get it to a full stop, after than press 1 to disengage the main engines and the fuel cell,
- in flight you can press 3 to engage the jet engine for increased max. speed, just make sure to shut down the engine before landing.
