Description

Built for the Münshot project, this tristage launch-vehicle carries its crew of 3 in the cone-shaped Command Capsule. Once the 3rd stage’s engine has fired again in low Kerbin orbit to put the spacecraft and her crew on a Free Return Trajectory ‘round the Mün, the Command Capsule and Service Module separate from the 3rd stage, flips 'round, and docks with the Mün Expedition Lander to extract it from its attachment point at the front of the third stage, in the bay behind the Service Module. After 2 of the crew finish assembling the suite of experiments on the surface, and collect surface samples into the MEL’s Ascent Stage, they lift off, using the Descent Stage as a launch-stand, to rendezvous and dock with the Command Capsule aboard which the 3rd crewmember waits to ferry them back to Kerbin.

A stock rocket called Jool 5. Built with 138 of the finest parts, its root part is mk1-3pod.

Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.7.3.

Note: Although this craft uses only stock parts, it is highly recommended that one either use a patch or manually tweak the Making History Munar Excursion Module part to shift its centre-of-mass roughly 0.6 to 0.75 meters fore of its unmodified location. This will make rendezvous and docking whilst orbiting the Mün much easier. In addition, this rocket was test-flown with the aid of MechJeb. The following mods are highly recommended.

This craft also uses the Vessel Naming functionality in such a way that upon being loaded in the VAB, the craft’s name will appear to be Kerpollo Command Capsule. That is because this ship is meant to be loaded directly to the launch-pad, and not through the VAB.
