Description
The SAAB JAS-39C is a Swedish 4th generation smart multirole fighter manufactured by the SAAB Aerospace Company first entering service in 2002 as a NATO-compatible variant of the Gripen A.
Gripen was created as a replacement for the old J-35 Draken and the AJS-37 Viggen, capable of performing Intercept/Dogfight (Jakt), Strike/Attack (Anfall) and reconnaissance (Spaning). The later variants of the Gripen was fitted with top-of-the-line Electronic Warfare capabilities.
The JAS-39 has served in a multitude of airforces around the world, such as Sweden, Brazil, South Africa, Czech Republic and Thailand. It has over 271 units constructed as of 2020 and it’s high capabilities along with it’s rather low price tag is a huge selling point for the aircraft.
