Description

This my replica of the Ferguson TE20 tractor plus a 2 Furrow Plough. This is a very different build from what I usually do but it has resulted in what is probably my favorite replica I have made. I had a load of fun making this and getting screenshots with it. Now the craft is extremely part dense but more rapid than I was expecting (~8m/s using the default set up but I’ve got it going over 20m/s manually controlling the RPM and Throttle values). Steering is a different story all together, don’t be expecting a tiny turning circle instead expect a more Space Shuttle sized one.

History

The story of the TE20 begins 30 years before the it’s introduction with working being on The Ferguson System which was based around a Hydraulic 3 Linked Hitch System in 1916. The patent for this Hitch was awarded to Ferguson in 1926. In the 30s the design was finalised in the early 30s. Ferguson’s first tractor (the Ferguson Model A) began to be produced in 1936 by the David Brown Company in Huddersfield. Ferguson then went to Ford and demonstrated his tractor to him. He made a handshake agreement with Ford to produce tractors in the Detroit plant. Tractors made in the Ford plant with go on to be known as Ford Fergusons. These tractors would begin production in 1939 and would be imported into England by the thousands to assist with food production during the war.
During the War the Ferguson team made many improvements to the design and in 1945 Ferguson made a deal with the Standard Motor Company to produce this new tractor, the TE20. Production started in 1946. In 1947 the last Ford Fergusons were produced. In 1948 a new Ferguson line started in Detroit producing the TO20 which was near identical to the TE20.
When it was first introduced the 3 point linkage was exclusive to the TE20 so for Farmers to get the full utility of it they needed to purchase specially-designed implements to work with the tractor. These initially were only produced internally at Ferguson but as the popularity of the system grew other manufacturers produced their own equipment for The Ferguson System. By 1950 there was well over 60 implements a part of the Ferguson System.
Ferguson became well known for it’s effective marketing that targeted it traditional Farmers who were still using horses and farmers using drawbar equipped tractors. They would fence of an area of 27ft by 20ft and cultivate that area using a TE20. This was a space too small for a horse or draw bar tractor. The advertising also emphasised the utility of it the PTO which came as part of the Ferguson system.
TE-20 production ended in 1956 being replaced by the Ferguson 35 tractor.
