Description

A jet designed for flying really slow (<20m/s) at high angles of attack. This is facilitated by spoilers and the intake flaps (AG4). Takeoff performance is enhanced by trailing edge flaps on the wing and canard deflection (AG3), which, when combined with TVC (AG 2) and afterburner (AG1) allow the craft to take off in some pretty short distances.

A stock aircraft called High-Alpha Testbed. Built with 60 of the finest parts, its root part is Mark2Cockpit.

Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.6.1.

Flight Characteristics and Notes

-Will do High-Alpha down to around 20m/s without the cockpit’s reaction wheels.

-Use rudder to control roll at high AoA to avoid stalling the wing from aileron deflection, which results in a roll to the opposite side as intended.

-Be wary of the small ventral fins on takeoff and landing.

-Controls are very sensitive at high speeds, as the craft is optimized for slow-speed flight.

-Has quite a lot of vertical surface ahead of the CG and an all-moving stabilizer, Which makes knife-edge flight and pinwheels a breeze.

-Beware of excessive sideslip to the point where any correction in the opposing direction will stall the rudder, rendering it useless and leading to a departure from controlled flight.

Holy control surfaces, Batman!
