Bird of Peace, Demon of War
The Arkbird is an Osean spaceplane, built and developed over the course of the Cold War. Following the era of peace that came after Osea and Yuktobania’s peace deal, it’s use was converted towards peaceful civilian purposes.
The Arkbird would be the obsession of Osean ace and astronaut, Edge- better known as Kei Nagase.
It’s use in the Cirrum-Pacific war was instrumental in the defeat of Yuktobania’s submarine Scinfaxi. However, behind it lay a sinister secret. During one of the many resupply missions to the Arkbird, Belkan Grey Men infiltrated and sabotaged one of the supply SSTOs, and would take control of the Arkbird, unbeknownst to Osea.
As the war raged on, the Grey Men would use the Arkbird to launch a nuclear attack on the Yuktobanian city of Okchabursk. As the massive white bird descended over the Ceres Ocean to do one final course correction, an Osean astronaut managed to sabotage the control system, before ejecting in an escape capsule. Dropping into the lower atmosphere, the Arkbird was intercepted by the Razgriz Ghosts. Attempting to reenter the upper atmosphere, it fired up it’s engines to gain speed. This would be to no avail, as the Razgriz Ghosts would destroy the engines.
Descending lower into the atmosphere, the Grey Men launched UAV’s at the Razgriz Squadron, much to the surprise of Nagase, who noted that the orignal design did not feature such a launcher, and who theorizes that the Belkans may have modified the Arkbird.
In one final desperate move, the Arkbird fired up it’s auxiliary engines, and turning north, would make one final dash to Osea, to detonate it’s payload.
Ultimately, this would prove futile, as Razgriz would shoot it down. It would crash into the Ceres Ocean.
