With every aircraft, forever war grows more interesting
The following article is an interview conducted by the National Aviaton Authority with one Mr. Adrian Brody, Eyewitness, on the subject of the Appahan Ace
(NAA copyright 1973)

To most people, the old airmail plane flying above is only slightly interesting, cause of it’s unique rumble.
But to those in the know, It’s one of the most accomplished aircraft in the Inner-Efrosan Appahan territories.
Rangers have never been a real talkative bunch, they operate on the edge of the law out of illegally armed, stolen aircraft. Nobody really cares though, in the eyes of the public, they’re heroes and good samaritans. The government turns a blind eye to them as long as they dont cause more trouble than they’re worth.
Of course between them helping the Police, Search and rescue teams, surveyors, and hell, a few of’m even run cargo up in the reinlands, Nobody’s keen to see them get locked up.
Back in the day when the royal isles just started colonizing the Reinlands, they used Airships and Aircraft to survey the land due to it’s enormous size. Many of these surveyors and aircraft were left behind, as they were worn out
. Those spiteful hooligans sure proved the suits wrong, they became the first Rangers, keeping the aircraft running in order to run freight between each of their outposts to survive. As the nation developed, most started running cargo for hire, But a few liked the Isolation and decided to stay the old ways, some moving to efrosa to help survey the middle continent, ferrying supplies to desert villages and scaring off the extremely rare Pirate.
Nobody knows much about Commanche or her Pilot, But the story goes a little like this…
A young man from burns, a small town in Appahan, Was the only person in his dried-up mining town capable of performing the one job that was available, Airmail.
No other pilots would fly the 250 mile route down the canyon due to it’s isolation, heat and difficult terrain, so the pay was good and the aircraft reliable. A Stetz Performer Biplane, outfitted with a Raker Shaker
radial engine, outputting 350hp. Over the many years, this engine served him well, never stalling over the canyon a single time.
One day the Pilot came back to find the town of burns deserted, as if everyone up and disappeared, of course this upset him and from then on, he’s sworn to find his family, friends, everyone.
While on the search one day, He happened upon the wreckage of what looked to be the last pilot to fly his route, Mostly intact but beaten by the sun and landing gear collapsed after a ground loop. The second Shaker, It’s fuel tank and other accessories were taken and added to the performer, creating a unique machine that most locals would call by it’s nickname, Thunderbird.
It’s not clear when the guns were added, but what is clear are the .50 brass that’s found littered across fields and the obliterated remains of coyotes that got too close to the herds.
Thunderbird
was a local myth among the farmers, Until one day when a crop duster got a little too big for his britches and decided the bank wasnt gonna be the boss of him anymore. At high noon, he made a Beeline for the bank, right down mainstreet. Everyone thought tragedy would ensue but a familiar Rumble started up, there was a sharp blast of machine gun fire then, after only about 50 shots, the duster was down.
The Sheriff tracked him down semi-quick, not much space to hide a runway on salt flats. Of course he was acquitted almost immediately due to the circumstances. From then on Everyone knew of him and Commanche. When The War broke out in ‘39, we heard he joined up, months later we say his name in the headlines time and time again, but as it dragged on, we saw the headline we all feared. Nobody wanted his story to end like this, but sometimes the lord takes the good ones too soon.
