Description

Hey, I’ve seen this one before!

Modified airframe of my other L-1011. Pegasus rocket included. Can carry probably any payload that fits inside the fairing. Comes with a lil CubeSat by default.

Transparency:
With some Kraken magic, dry mass of the plane has been marginally reduced. This allows for very slow flight and very high altitudes.

Takeoff

Disable SAS, and full throttle. At 40-50m/s, the plane should auto-rotate. If impatient, simply pitch up (maximum) 10°. We are not liable for any loss of booster stage. After takeoff, pitch up to 30°-40° and hold until 7km altitude, after which pitch 10° to reach 11-12km altitude.

Pegasus Launch

At desired altitude:
1) Select the probe core on the rocket and pin it.
2) Pitch up to 45°.
3) Decouple by staging.
4) Quickly switch to the Pegasus.
5) Stage again to fire booster, click ‘Control from Here’, and pitch up as hard as possible.

Pegasus Flight

1) Hold attitude, preferably >45° until burnout. Cry as Stargazer vanishes into nothing.
2) Stage, then achieve a >70km apoapsis.
3) Stage again after burnout to circularise.
4) Profit.

Stargazer Recovery

Probably impossible, if you’re focusing on the rocket. The plane, of course, lands anyway, because planes don’t care about what you think is impossible.
1) Descend towards the runway.
2) Slow down to 50-60m/s.
3) Touchdown at 50m/s with a vertical speed of very small.
4) Cry as Pegasus disintegrates past the 25km loading distance. Never forgetti spaghetti.

Can actually transport the Pegasus itself. Land with big boi caution.

Cautionary Tales from Another Dimension

At full upwards deflection, the rear elevators may sometimes spontaneously combust into nothingness. At this point, you’d be lucky to get down in one piece. Not for lack of control, but because the Stargazer will godspeed upon the smallest impact.

Don’t force the nose gear into the ground.

A stock aircraft called Lockheed L-1011 Stargazer. Built with 700 of the finest parts, its root part is HECS2.ProbeCore.

Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.7.3.

Got any ideas for airliners I should build? You should tell me.
