Description
The Fastest Jet Transport in the World
(Popular Mechanics, March 1959, p.89). The Convair 880 was designed as a sleek competitor to the Douglas DC-8 and Boeing 707, although it eventually declined in sales due to its comparatively lacking passenger capacity. Only 65 Examples were made, but a few carried on in service into the 1980’s, becoming either cargo haulers or private jets. Another story of a ‘what could’ve been,’ you can live it out in KSP as this model is almost identical in physical dimensions and can cruise like a champ at 250m/s, 1/3 throttle and whatever altitude suits you! A progressive-curve wing provides uniform lift, allowing slow approach and short landing rolls. Want to land on the Island runway? No sweat! It also has brake-bound auto-flaps, as shown below.
