Description

No description.

A mod subassembly called Magellan. Built with 68 of the finest parts, its root part is decoupler1-2.

Built in KSP version 1.0.4.

This is a mostly stock re-creation of the Magellan Venus Orbiter as launched on STS-30 by space shuttle Atlantis. This sub-assembly is designed to be launched by my KSP1-Shuttle. Just requires RemoteTech.

UPDATE: Moho Aeroworks redesigned the IUS booster and it looks even more authentic now! Get it here: http://kerbalx.com/crafts/4062

Mechjeb settings

I flew the launch mission using MechJeb (not included in the craft files), and here are the parameters I used for the ascent guidance. These settings will provide you with a relatively accurate reproduction of the launch profile as flown on STS-30, with the boosters separating and landing in the ocean for safe recovery, and the external tank on a sub-orbital trajectory for disposal.

Orbit altitude: 360km

Orbit inclination: 28.8

Limit acceleration to: 40m/s (3G limit, don’t think it ever needs it)

Force Roll climb: climb 180 turn 180 (STS-30 flew an older launch profile that did not roll to heads up at the end of SSME burn)

Corrective Steering: on

Autostage: on

Delays: pre 0 post 0

Stop at stage: 4

Ascent path:

Start altitude: 1km

Start velocity: 100m/s

End altitude: 35km

Final flight path angle: 8 degrees

Turn shape: 66%
