The F-35 Variant A, also known as the F-35A Lightning II, is a single-seat, single-engine, fifth-generation multirole fighter aircraft designed for the United States Air Force (USAF) and other international partners. It is part of the F-35 family of stealth fighter jets, which also includes the F-35B and F-35C variants designed for the US Marine Corps and US Navy, respectively.

The F-35A features advanced avionics and sensor systems, advanced stealth technology, and the ability to carry a wide range of weapons. It has a range of over 1,200 nautical miles and can fly at a top speed of over 1,200 miles per hour. It is equipped with a 25mm GAU-22/A cannon and can carry up to 18,000 pounds of ordnance on its external hardpoints, including air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles, bombs, and rockets.

The F-35A is built by Lockheed Martin, with the first flight taking place in December 2006. It has been in service with the USAF since 2016 and has also been exported to several international partners, including Australia, Israel, and Japan.

The differences of the F-35 Variants:

F-35A Lightning II: This is the conventional takeoff and landing (CTOL) variant of the F-35 designed for the U.S. Air Force and other international partners. It is the smallest and lightest of the three F-35 variants and is primarily used for air-to-ground missions. The F-35A has an internal cannon, can carry up to 18,000 pounds of external payload, and has a range of 1,200 nautical miles.

F-35B Lightning II: This is the short takeoff and vertical landing (STOVL) variant of the F-35 designed for the U.S. Marine Corps and other international partners. It is capable of taking off and landing on a variety of ships and amphibious assault carriers, and has the ability to operate from unimproved runways and austere locations. The F-35B has a lift fan and a thrust vectoring nozzle that allows it to take off and land vertically. It can also carry up to 18,000 pounds of external payload and has a range of 900 nautical miles.

F-35C Lightning II: This is the carrier variant (CV) of the F-35 designed for the U.S. Navy. It is larger and heavier than the other two variants, and has larger wings and control surfaces for improved low-speed handling and carrier approach characteristics. The F-35C has folding wings and other modifications for carrier operations. It can carry up to 18,000 pounds of external payload and has a range of 1,200 nautical miles.

All three variants of the F-35 share a common design, including the airframe, engine, avionics, and software. They also have advanced sensors and stealth technology, allowing them to operate in highly contested environments with a reduced risk of detection. The F-35 program is a joint program between the U.S. Department of Defense and international partners, including the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, and Turkey.
