The Thor-class missile was first used to launch nuclear warheads. After the great war, the Kerbin Exploration Corps found these old missiles, and turned them into satellite launch vehicles. It can accelerate really fast too. You don’t have to use it as a satellite launch vehicle though, you can always use it as a missile when you get bored!
