Another SSTO with refueling capacity for Je ne sais quoi mod in Kerbals Space Program, which rescales the system by a factor of 2.7 .

Two contracts have been put up to rescue Kerbals from space! This is the opportunity to test our brand new spaceplane.
A challenge is to bring back the capsule of Lemnard Kerman from orbit around the Mun back to the surface of Kerbin.
Because less is more, we are going to strap the Lunar landing module to the back of our plane and fly it piggy-back style back through reentry and to the surface.

New building techniques have been used: the root part is a small fairing, upon which the rest of the craft has been build around. The fairing tricks the game into believing, that the centerline parts are shielded from drag.
Another discovery has been the use of engine plates to shield parts from drag. This allows the aft docking port to seem exposed without producing drag.

The craft takes of at around 120 m/s. As the runway is too short for this, we have to launch from beside the runway on the grass. The benefit is a much higher tonnage per rapier engine: the 173t craft flies with only four rapier engines, which is 43,25t per rapier engine.

The plane can reach low Kerbin orbit with enough fuel for a transfer to Minmus and a landing there.
The onboard ISRU equipment allows for easy refueling on the surface. Lots of tests have been carried out to find a optimal setup: The combination of a small ISRU, large maining drill and 375 units of ore storage allows for a very efficient setup, which can be run undser timewarp solely with some batteries and a single RTG.

Lemnard Kerman’s capsule has been rescued from orbit around the Mun and put on the back. An engineer has installed a grabbing unit jr. during a spacewalk using EVA construction mode. With the small claw, the capsule has been attached to the main craft.

Although hard on the limit of catastrophic heat failure, reentry is successful.

And a landing in one piece!
