The Mun Hopper in a parking orbit high above Kerbin, awaiting its departure burn to Duna.

  • Like the other Mun Hoppers after it, this needed a refueling stop at Ike before it can head for Jool.

The Neptune III after a successful re-entry over Laythe, approaching a nice landing spot.

After refueling on an island, the Neptune III flew at supersonic speed towards where Jool was more obvious in the night sky.

  • Which, unfortunately, was where it got darker. Good thing we did nose-first parachute landing tests before the mission, or the crew would have been in serious trouble.

Description

The first consistently successful SSTO to land on Laythe and return. After it came back from its voyage, it was soon replaced with variants that had a higher energy intake and could carry more science.
In turn, Mk. II was replaced with a more aerodynamically-efficient design that could also carry goo.
That does not mean we should forget that this plane laid down the groundwork for Laythe spaceplane exploration. Kudos to the brave men who flew in this plane on Jool’s cold, watery moon.

A stock aircraft called Mun Hopper Mk. I. Built with 61 of the finest parts, its root part is Mark1Cockpit.

Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.12.4.

DISCLAIMER

I made the Mun Hopper Mk. I years ago, only editing it today to clean it up a bit. If this spacecraft doesn’t work for you, please let me know.
Also, I only released it today when I was doing a (half-assed) cleanup of my old files. When I came across it, I decided to at least preserve it on KerbalX - and at least explain where Mk. I was after such a long time. It’s still in my career save, but I’m probably never going to use it anymore now that I have upgraded variants.
