BEFORE YOU FLY
Hit Alt+f12 to open the debug menu -> physics section -> aero -> check Show Aero GUI
Hit capslock to turn on fine adjust mode.
Make sure the bottom left section of the UI is showing the pitch, yaw, and roll dials
CONTROLS
Action Groups:
1. Toggle prop bays
2. Toggle Vectors
3. Toggle Nervs
4. Toggle Ions
5. Unassigned
6. Toggle solar panels and ISRU bay
7. Toggle solar panels, ISRU bay, and drill deploy
8. Toggle drill active, radiator cooling, and fuel production
9. Toggle crew bay and ladder
0. Toggle scanning bay, survey scanner, narrow band scanner, ionographer, and antenna
Axis Groups:
Up/Down: increase/decrease blade angle
Right/Left: increase/decrease rotor torque
Forward/Backward: increase/decrease canard deploy angle
FLIGHT
1. Unlock brakes, use Right/Left axis group to max out rotor torque.
2. Adjust Up/Down axis group as needed to keep blade angle near maximum thrust, take off at 60-65m/s. Total excess thrust can be seen as negative drag in the Aero GUI
3. Pitch up to 70 degrees, continue slowly adjusting blade angle to reach 75m/s, do not go above this, at 80m/s props will stall and kraken out.
4. Adjust Forward/Backward axis group to adjust canard deploy angle so that the pitch dial shows no pitch needed for hold atitude SAS
5. When speed begins to fall at ~8 km, begin nosing down to maintain or gain speed, continue to adjust blade angle to maintain maximum excess thrust, continiue to adjust canard angle to keep hold attitude SAS with no pitch input.
6. Continiue climbing while slowly nosing farther and farther down to continue to slowly gain speed, try and keep an Angle of Attack (can be seen in Aero GUI) of 7 degrees. If greater than 7 degrees, nose down to gain speed, if less than 7 degrees, climb more agressively.
7. Above 13 km let AoA begin to increase past 7 degrees in order to preserve climbrate. Above 16 km allow AoA to increase past 8 degrees. By 16.5 (if you can make it) 9 degrees will be needed.
8. Once reaching 16.5 km, and running out of battery power; set throttle to full, activate action groups 1, 2, and 3 to close prop bays and turn on vectors and nervs, and toggle brakes on.
9. Craft should fly as close to level at 16.5-17km as possible until it is possible to gain altitude while following prograde. To do this, continue adusting canard angle to maintain hold attitude SAS with no pitch input, and slowly feather hold attitude down to maintain as close to 0 vertical speed as possible.
10. Once 0 pitch input hold attitude and hold prograde overlap (AoA indicated as less than 0.1 degrees) switch to hold prograde SAS, and adjust canards to get AoA as near 0 as possible.
11. Pitch will begin rising on it’s own, peaking at about 25 degrees. It will then begin dropping. Once dropping back past 16 degrees switch to back to hold SAS.
12. Vectors will burnout at a pitch of aproximately 20 degrees. Continue to hold 20 degree pitch as nervs continue to burn adjusting hold SAS as needed.
13. Time to apoapsis will be decreasing, this is ok, if you did everything right it will start increasing again as you approach it.
14. Once apoapsis is above 90 km AND time to apoapsis starts increasing, pitch down towards prograde until time to apoapsis starts decreasing again.
15. Via adjusting pitch, try to keep time to apoapsis at about 20 seconds.
16. Once time to apoapsis is growing even when pointing directly prograde, begin throttling down.
17. If everything was done correctly you should be in orbit right about now.
