The SPR-355 is an evolution of the SPR-350. Since we can never seem to leave well enough alone, we decided that there absolutely had to be a VTOL version of this craft. Note that the VTOL system is designed for worlds with no atmosphere, such as the Mun. With a full fuel load, the craft cannot take off vertically on Kerbin. The engines are not very efficient or powerful in an atmosphere, but can be used for shorter takeoff, at the expense of large amounts of fuel.
This ship combines everyone’s favorite craft into one awesome package - a single stage to orbit VTOL spaceplane with a deployable crewed rover. We really went all out with the bells and whistles on this one, and even included some great features as well.
Be sure to read the owner’s manual carefully before your first flight as the controls and flight sequences are very complex. Because we know you won’t, we’re including the SPT-350 for Dummies summary below.
The action grouping for your craft is very important - don’t make the mistake Jeb made on the first flight and jettison the rover into the ocean. He said that we needed to test its submersible capabilties. Just for the record, they came out to none.
AG 1: Toggle RAPIER engine on/off
AG 2: Toggle RAPIER mode
AG 3: Toggle airbrakes
AG 4: Toggle rover brakes (turn on before flight)
AG 5: Toggle rover solar panels (DO NOT turn on before flight)
AG 6: Toggle rover lifting struts
AG 7: Undock rover bay docking port
AG 8: Toggle VTOL engines on / off
AG 9: Toggle spaceplane lifting strut
AG 10: Toggle rover bay doors (make sure no rovers are attached first)
While your experience may vary, we’ve found that the following procedure tends to work best for a mission to another body.
Lock rover wheels and throttle up to 100%. Activate the RAPIER engines and lift off. Retract the landing gear and climb to high altitude. Switch the enginges to closed circuit and make orbit. Once in orbit, be sure to stop at a Lev Aerospace Enhanced Fueling Station (sold seperately) and proceed to your target world as normal.
After landing, activate all vehicle brakes. Deploy the spaceplane lifting struts to get clearance for the rover. Undock the rover and back out from under the spaceplane. Don’t forget to turn off the brakes, or you won’t do much rovering.
On return to the spaceplane, park under the docking port. Retract the spaceplane lifting struts. Deploy the rover lifting struts to dock the rover with the spaceplane and you’re on your way!

NOTICE: Warranty void if craft leaves Low Kerbin Orbit. Rover is not a submersible and cannot deploy at 10,000 meters. Do not attempt to dock other vehicles in rover bay as serious damage and/or lawsuits could result. If lifting struts will not retract after four hours, contact your mechanic immediately.
