About the CF-100
The CF-100 Canuck is a Cold war era interceptor/fighter designed and produced by Avro Canada. It is also the only mass produced Canadian designed fighter jet ever made. Other fighters were planned like the infamous Arrow, but they were all canceled. The plane was designed to be an all weather interceptor suitable for long distance possibly arctic missions when the threat of Russian bombers was significant. This is why it has two engines ; reliability. The Canuck had a short takeoff and high climb rate, perfect for its role. Although. it was not known for its maneuverability and dogfighting was not recommended.
I found a nice video about it if you want to learn more : https://youtu.be/VTSRRmcOaT8
Fun Fact:
The CF-100 is cool… and, it was the first straight winged plane to surpass the speed of sound!
The Replica
This craft was modeled after the mk5 Canuck (its last iteration). It flies very well, but it’s relatively slow at ~150 m/s, so no back flips! For smooth takeoff, get to a speed of 50m/s. To jettison the fuel tanks (on the wings), stage. There is a CF-100 on display near where I live, so it was nice to get the real thing as a reference!
I plan to make more RCAF planes in the future like the CF-101 Voodoo, CF-104 Starfighter and CL-84.
