Description
Foreword: ¨This STS system isn’t recommend for pilots that are unfamiliar with STS launch characterist. It is quite unforgiving and takes a few flights for one to get familiar with its accent handling.¨¨General info and vehicle limitations:¨¨Max load to LKO: 36 tons¨Max landing load: 5 tons¨Standard Crew accommodatoins: 5¨Orbital DV: 950 m/s (0 tons of payload), 500 m/s (max load)¨¨Loading: ¨For a max load to orbit (36 tons) fill the bottom fuel tank on the external fuel tank stack slightly over half way.¨For an empty cargo bay empty the tank instead.¨For anything inbetween fill the bottom tank 1/8 to 1/3 of fuel. With the lightest loads requiring the least amount of fuel.¨¨Deorbiting and landing:¨ From LKO (70-150 km) perform a 150 m/s burn that has a trajectory that is slightly infront of the KSC. Maintain a flat reentry by keeping your level indicator ~10* above the horizon. Begin doing S
turns as needed when flying over the mountain range near KSC. ~70 m/s landing speed
