A full Stock Replica of the Mercury Project Atlas varient, the vehicle that put the first American into LEO. For this build I strived to replicated the actual vehicle in both form, and function. While the proportions between the Mk1 command pod and the Rockomax tanks aren’t quite accurate to the real thing, the Mk1 command pod was so obviously inspired by the Mercury spacecraft I couldn’t have not chosen it. Not to mention that the Linear RCS port is practically Identical to the retro engines on the Mercury spacecraft. There are a few glaring inaccuracies however, for example the LES features 4 seperatrons rather than a more accurate 3. This is because, after innumerous tests, I could find no way to make 3 seperatrons work, as they simply do not provide enough power to get the capsule high enough for it’s primary parachute to fully deploy. Despite this unfortunate difference I am quite proud with how the LES functions. The 3 Vectors are heavily tuned down to keep this craft from exploding due to atmospheric heating. The capsule’s reaction wheels are disabled, so the craft is controlled entirely via it’s RCS. Retro Linear RCS ports can be activated using the throttle. Also the craft is an SSTO, not exactly accurate but…….. why not.
