Description
Reuseable SSTO plane designed for LKO recovery operations. Slowly climb to about 5.5 km dry, then 12 km wet, then add aerospikes and climb about 35 deg. to orbit. Before re-entry, transfer any remaining fuel to the front center tank to counter-balance the payload in the klaw. I started to lose control around 15 km but stabilized after relighting the engines. Has fin airbrakes and parachutes if needed. I tried to include flaps but they reverse depending on the CoM shift - see my control reversal test
craft. Pictures with the drill are an earlier version.
This evolved from my first SSTO plane. Panther/ aerospike combnation worked well for me- more efficient initial climb. I’ll try more Whiplash and Rapier but so far they didn’t work as well.
A stock aircraft called Kerbin klaw plane 8. Built with 100 of the finest parts, its root part is adapterSize2-Mk2.
