Description
The Clavius is a powerful nuclear shuttle for all your Kerbin system needs. Equipped with crew space for ten (two pilots and eight passengers) and over 4km/s of 𝚫V, the Clavius can easily perform missions to Minmus orbit and back to LKO without the need for aerobraking. The cargo bay contains an extendable Clamp-O-Tron Jr. docking port, solar arrays, a relay antenna, and cargo space. To ease in landing, the orbiter has large airbrakes and two turbojets to improve cross-range. The core stage also has landing hardware and can be used to land once it delivers the orbiter to LKO, expending only the solid rocket boosters.
Instructions
Before liftoff, target SAS to Radial Out. Immediately after lifting off, roll the vehicle to have the top of the orbiter facing downrange to fly an inverted ascent profile. Once the SRBs are jettisoned, ignite the nuclear engines to continue to orbit. Once the circularization burn begins, roll to have the orbiter on the top
of the stack. After separation of the core stage, shut down the Thud
engine and use the main engine to deorbit. Target a terrestrial landing site, as the stage does not take kindly to water landings. High-precision landings near the KSC are possible. The orbiter can now be flown normally. Take care to deploy the solar arrays, as the avionics unit will drain electric charge.
