Melano B

The Melano series are 2 parts medium/long range mk2 SSTO able of aerobrake .
Built with 156 parts, of course the B version is an evolued version of the Melano A optimised to have more Δ one upon reaching kerbins orbit.
The idea was to reduce the spaceplane weight by transfering some fuel tanks on the external one (xFT) and adding a RAPIER engine to it. As the A version it contains a science cargo bay.

Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.1.3. C version made for 1.2 incoming !

Here you can see the architectural difference with the A version.

As you can see the xFT has been raised using a girder to free the two RAPIER engines.

This vessel is easily able to go and back from the mun withn’t any refuel, it have lower maximum amount of L.fuel than the A version so you may not be able to go as far it but it has been developed in the idea to not be refuel during its trips. So if you dont have any way to refuel after lefting kerbin you will have more Δ than with the A version and be able to go further.
The xFT of this version is also easier to recover than the first version.

  • This spaceplane hasn’t been test withn’t Kerbal Joint Reinforcement but possibly it work withn’t any mod. The other mods are only here too add cameras, docking ports and the Kerbal Engineer computer.

  • The plane is kind of hard to take off because of too small landing gears so you have wait the runway end before pitching up or the nuclear engines are going to hit the ground. Plus you have to take care of your speed or the plane is gonna yaw in the runway.
    This problem can be easily solve by changing the landing gears but it will affect the plane ascent only for a better take off and i didn’t wanted that.

  • The external Fuel tank must be séparate when its totally empty of oxidiser so you have to check manualy to know when its off. In some case the xFT will be out of fuel before you reach a 75000m ap. so you can hold it till you have the right speed to be able to recover it

  • For the landing dont forget to put all your Liquid Fuel to the top/nose of the plane for a better stability, you can deploy Elevons too.

  • The 3 top L.Fuel tanks are Locked at the start, advisable to let them lock during the ascend.

  • There is not any official dockin port on the vessel, only KIS little ones.

  • SAS always on.
