A super-realistic replica of NASA’s Saturn V rocket
(possibly even the most detailed Saturn V replica ever made).
Saturn V was the USA’s moon rocket, carrying Apollo 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17 missions to the moon.
It was the most powerful rocket ever flown (total impulse), and had a 92% success rate, with only partial failure being the Apollo 6.
The F-1 engine, producing 6,670 kN (later uprated to 6,770 kN) of thrust, used on the first stage of the Saturn V rocket was the most powerful single-chamber liquid-fueled rocket engine ever flown. And second most powerful liquid-fueled engine ever, only beaten by the russian RD-170 and it’s derivatives.
The Solid Rocket Boosters (SRB’s) however, are much more powerful that that, with the most powerful SRB, Aerojet’s 260in motor, being capable of producing whopping 26,200 kN, over 4x more.
The center F-1 engine on Apollo missions was shut down (CECO) approximately 20 seconds before the OECO, to limit G-forces.
The peak acceleration on the vehicle reached around 4g.
Apollo 4 had 8 ullage motors on the S-II interstage, later missions dropped that to 4.
The S-II stage is distinctive for having 2 separation events related to the interstage. This was necessitated by the relative lack of space around the 5 J-2’s powering the S-II. As having traditional interstage could result in damage to the engines during separation.
Similarly to the center engine on the S-IC, the center J-2 on the second stage was also shut down early. On the S-II, however, it was done to limit pogo oscillations, and not G-forces.
Total time from liftoff to orbit, for the Saturn V, was around 11 minutes, 40 seconds.
The third stage of the Saturn V (S-IVB-500) had, aside from the main J-2 engine, 2 APS (Auxiliary Propulsion System) units, for attitude control and settling the propellant (ullage) in preparation for Trans-Lunar Injection.
The solid ullage motors were jettisoned shortly after use, to reduce weight.
