Description

The culmination of the first Mun landing program, the Munik stack was designed to land a single kerbal on the Mun and bring them back to Kerbin (give or take a few fingers). It contains the SOL-MO orbiter and the VL-1A Mun lander, with detachable landing gear and a stage to slow it down enough to lithobrake safely.

A stock rocket called CP-2MO ‘SOL-MO’ / VL-1A ‘Spider’ (Munik-1). Built with 126 of the finest parts, its root part is mk1pod.v2.

Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.12.5.

Launch Instructions:

Pitch down at a slight angle during launch but keep throttle at 100% until after you reach 40 km height.

Jettison launch escape system and fairings at 40 km.

You should be able to get into orbit and still have fuel left over in the third stage. Use this for transmunar injection and Mun orbit insertion.

Orbit Instructions:

The third stage should have just enough fuel in it for transmunar injection and Mun orbit insertion.

After the third stage runs out of fuel, use the fourth stage to complete Mun orbit insertion.

I recommend placing waypoints to use as markers for where to land the Spider.

Transfer your crew member from the SOL-MO to the Spider and press 5 to disconnect the lander from the orbiter, and begin your descent.

Use the fourth stage to slow the Spider down, and jettison the fourth stage at least 100 m above the Munar surface.

Stage immediately when touching Munar surface to activate ‘nesting’ retrorockets, these will plant the Spider firmly on the Mun.

Stage or press ABORT to jettison the Spider’s landing legs and begin your ascent.

Use the SOL-MO’s fuel to dock with the Spider and jettison it after the crew and science has been transferred.
