Description

The SOL-M (Small Orbital Laboratory, Modified) is an improved version of the first-generation CP-2 ‘SOL’. Its propulsion system and heat shield have been lightened and controls have been simplified. Can be used to test technologies in orbit or to perform science experiments.

This is an optionally crewed spacecraft designed to perform science experiments in low Kerbin orbit (LKO) and to dock to other SOL-MO’s to practise EVA’s and crew transfers. It can also be used to test technology. Science modules can be mounted to the craft’s orbital module, and it contains a retractable ladder for a scientist to stand on to perform experiments.

A stock rocket called CP-2M ‘SOL-M’. Built with 75 of the finest parts, its root part is mk1pod.v2.

Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.12.4.

Launch Instructions:

Launch at a slight angle, but turn to 45 degrees at around 20 km. The craft will pitch after stage 0 jettison, so prepare to stabilize it.
Throttle down after stage 0.
Jettison the launch escape system after reaching 40 km altitude.
The second stage has a low TWR, so it must be burnt for several minutes to achieve an orbit.

Some pictures show earlier versions of the craft.
