Small but dangerous
The Northrop F-5, dating all the way back to the 60s, was a light supersonic fighter developed from the T-38 Talon. It saw wide service in a huge amount of countries due to being cheap to produce and operate. After almost 60 years, some of it’s variants are still in use.
The F-5E variant is amongst the most popular ones of it’s series. It had multiple upgrades over the earlier variants, including for example a radar, new engines and extended leading edge extensions.
Switzerland used almost 100 F-5s at it’s peak, making the Swiss one of the biggest Tiger II users. They have a simple and elegant livery which I decided to go for.
This was almost as fun to build as it is to fly, easily my most solid flight experience on my replicas. Since the elevators are small I decided to go for custom BG ones after a while, and oh boy did it give some nice results! Feature set is the standard for me, custom gear, air brakes, flaps and a landing chute. The Swiss Air Force
variant has the Swiss livery, so make sure to download the flags in case you go for that one.
Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.10.1.
Controls
- Air brakes deploy from brakes
- Landing chute is deployed from staging
- Flaps deploy from 1
