Douglas A2D-1 Skyshark
Controls
- On takeoff, throttle gradually for optimal prop thrust output
- Land really carefully, the main gear can’t take high speed impacts
- Engine starts from RCS, stage once to activate the jets engines
- Landing hook deploys from 1
- Air brake deploys from 2
Description
The A2D-1 was a naval based attack aircraft featuring a turboprop with counter rotating propellers - something new and unusual for it’s time. It was developed by Douglas from their widely successful A-1 Skyraider, used for the same role. First flight for the Skyshark was performed in 26th of March,1950. Turboprops proved to be too inefficient for the time and as the jet development advanced at a rapid speed, the program was eventually cancelled after 2 prototype and 10 production aircraft.
This was a quick, 4 day build - crazy fast compared to most of my other craft. Loved to build this as much as I love the plane, it’s one beautiful beast. Flies like a brick, but is really stable. Has some nice features like fully realistic custom gear, tail hook and an air brake. Also reasonable part count, just 469, so fps isn’t a big problem.
Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.10.1.
