Album contains 11 pictures.

This is part of Echo ‘47, a collection of semi-fictional designs set in the dawn of the jet age. Craft may be named after their real world inspirations, but they are not meant to be replicas.

Design Notes

  • The design is inspired by the A.W.52, XB-35, YB-49 and Horten flying wings, as well as the German flying wing in the Indiana Jones movie (it was originally powered by propellers instead of jets).
  • Its role would be similar with the de Havilland Mosquito - a Swiss army knife medium aircraft platform for all kinds of missions imaginable, most notably fast bomber and reconnaissance aircraft.
  • It flies surprisingly well, with decent maneuverability as a result of extremely low wing load. It seems that such a flying wing design requires reversing pitch control authority, but after doing so, it handles just like normal aircraft. Reaction wheels are deactivated.
  • Cruising at Mach 0.7-0.9 at 7-12km altitude, it can circumnavigate Kerbin.
  • The propeller powered version is also an interesting aircraft, but since it’s relatively easy to convert from this version, I won’t post it separately. Like most propeller aircraft, that version is not as easy to fly as this one (requires matching blade pitch with airspeed).
  • Not a fan of the turret? Just replace it with small nosecone. It flies just as fine.

Wish you enjoy and happy landings!
