The Dolphin was designed to compete directly with early jet fighters, using two Kestrel engines attached to a single prop-shaft to accelerate up to 270 m/s in level flight. One engine was attached behind the pilot, with the other in-front. Otherwise, the rest of the plane’s design was rather conventional.

Unfortunately, such a high speed design also came with drawbacks. For instance, several tons of rotational mass makes turning to the left difficult at low speeds. The high speed airfoil also makes for a higher stall speed than most other propeller planes.
