Description

Ever heard the old adage There’s more planes in the ocean than submarines in the sky? Well now you can change that! The Eve Sub is a submarine with dual sets of propellers and form fitting wings, allowing it to dive below the surface and navigate, or take off and hop to another ocean. It is capable of 13.5 m/s when submerged, or 130 m/s in the air with a max range of 70 km. The craft is fully electric, and has solar panels in the front cargo bay. See flight instructions below - this proof of concept vehicle can be a bit tricky. I recommend quicksaving before trying anything as it sometimes explodes.

Submarine mode
  1. Unlock rear prop set, lock the hinge in the forward position as well as the front props
  2. Press 1 to open the doors and submerge
  3. Press 2 to activate the rear props
  4. Throttle to control the prop speed, and use Translate F/B for prop deploy angle.
  5. Stay below the surface when props are spinning, as rapidly impacting the water will destroy them
  6. When ready to surface, you simply steer upwards under engine power, or press 1 to close the doors and float up
Aircraft mode (reliable but slow method)

Taking off with this method will work fine, but takes a fair amount of battery

  1. Start with a fully charged battery. Use the solar panels in the front cargo bay to recharge, and retract them when finished
  2. Lock the rear prop set, unlock the front prop set, and lock the hinge in the up position
  3. Press 3 to activate front props
  4. Deploy fan blades to 6-9 deg using Translate U/D
  5. Throttle up and lift off. Adjust blade deployment to maximize vertical ascent speed
  6. Once you reach around 800 m, cut throttle.
  7. Fall into a steady glide. Simultatously unlock the hinge and lock it in the forward position again.
  8. Throttle up and adjust blade deployment angle for best acceleration
  9. Pull out of the dive and fly wherever.
  10. To land in water, simply come in low and hold it just above the water for as long as you can. It will land well at under 50 m/s
Aircraft mode (risky but fast method)

Taking off with this method is risky because moving the hinges is unstable in flight

  1. Start with a fully charged battery. Use the solar panels in the front cargo bay to recharge, and retract them when finished
  2. Lock the rear prop set and unlock the front prop set. Move hinge to vertical positon, but do not lock
  3. Press 3 to activate front props
  4. Deploy fan blades to 6-9 deg using Translate U/D
  5. Throttle up and lift off.
  6. Gently use Translate L/R to move the hinge forward so you gain forward velocity. Adjust blade angle as needed
  7. Once fully transitioned to forward flight, it is recommended you briefly cut throttle for long enough to lock the hinge, then resume flying as normal.
  8. To land in water, simply come in low and hold it just above the water for as long as you can. It will land well at under 50 m/s
