Mir Space Station (Russia)
Description
Named after a famous crab dish it resembles (according to the designer), the “Rangong Outpost” is the Rocko-Jeb’s first iteration for a large space station. After the basic construction of the module is completed, each of 6 modules are launched to LKO by the way of Rocko-Jeb’s “Butalae Hexa YiX” launcher, and (except for the Second Module) will rendezvous and dock with each other using the onboard thrusters. 3 standard-sized docks are available for either crew ferries, resupply vessels, or expansions, while 2 extendable airlocks allow EVA operations and (after some persuasion from JS-Hangtian) docking with shuttles, and 2 mini-port are available for attachment of additional components.
Real life Notes
The Russian Space Station Mir continues the lineage of the Salyut/Almaz and TKS project. While the Core module is a continuation of Salyut, it defers from the earlier iteration by removing some of the scientific equipments for a more comfortable living space and even more docking ports. Instead, 5 additional modules, based upon the TKS (specifically the FGB portion), provide the additional functions. In order to resupply the station, Russia utilizes the Progress
cargo ship for supplies and fuel.
After the construction of ISS, Russian budget is being split, and as such, it was made to be deorbit on March 23, 2001. Its legacy lives on in the Russian Portion of ISS, as well as the future phase-3 of Tiangong project.
