Replica of / Inspiration:
Orion CEV 606 (Constellation program); Ares I
Description
A new space capsule from JS Hangtian, the Lehu-ErX1 provide a cheap way to send 4 kerbals into Orbit. Designed as a cheap way to send 4 kerbals into Orbit for deep space operation, it is launched on Fogin Rx0, which just require one single cheap “Pollux” SRB as first stage to keep the cost low.
In order to make altitude control easier, it utilized LF/O engines for more delta-V in orbit, making it easier to rendezvous with space station or even a Duna lander of your choice.
Flight profile:
- Let the SRB fly straight up
- Fly until 100m/s is hit, then begin yaw to east (90 degree). POINT PROGRADE!!
- When SRB is spent, discard and continue with second stage, until AP hit ~80k
- Circularize as needed
Real life notes
Orion can be considered in two phases: The constellation era, where it is designated as CEV (Crew Exploration Vehicle), and the SLS/Artemis’s MPCV. Within the CEV program, there are 3 design iteration, and the one here is based on the last revision under CEV, the Orion 606. Regardless, CEV use a pair of circular fold solar panel, while MPCV utilized the ATV-based service module built by ESA, and thus have quad linear fold solar panels. Otherwise, they both have similar design requirement, with elimination of fuel cell and its associated hardware (namely, LH2), and a variant of AJ10, which is also used for Shuttle OMS.
