#Angara #URM

Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.7.2 (DLC REQUIRED)
- Making History DLC
- Squad (stock).
Root part is Size1p5.Tank.04.

NOTE: The other stacks are not included. Build it yourself by following instructions below

Inspiration:

Russian Angara (URM-1 and URM-2). Note A3, A5, and A7 require some assemblies.

Description

The “Ladle YiWCC” rocket series is an evolution of the Ladle series. Done away with the curves that is the signature of the original Ladle, the Ladle YiWCC instead employed a standardized first stage that can be bundled together according to payload, with a maximum of 7 bundled together (Core + 6 Booster) possible . The “XShortSpoon” upper stage can also be made optional and let self-propelled payload conduct orbital insertion themselves.

Instruction

!!! RE-ROOT ONCE YOU DECIDE ON YOUR STACK !!!

Payload rating to LKO (70k to 149k)
Single Stack 3.5t
Tri-Stack: 14t (2.5t Munar)
5-stack: 21.5t
7-stack: 28t (15t Munar)

Instruction if using more than 1 stack
Instruction if using more than 1 stack
1) Load first stack. Lower max thrust to 51%
2) Remove Spoon Module if desired (Grasp the Engine plate)
3) Load payload
4) Holding down MOD key (Alt in Win) and grasp the top of 1st stage. Set aside (do not load new crafts)
5) Place desired amount of radial decoupler(s)
6) Place the 1st stage you copied in step (4) on the radial decoupler(s)
7) Use Tool:Move to move stacks to position
8) Add aero fairing/cones to booster stacks
9) During launch, pin core stack’s property. Increase thrust to 100% when discarding booster stage.

Real Life notes

The Russian ran into a major issue as USSR dissolved – namely, their planned replacement rocket, Zenit, is now Ukrainian, while Proton needs to use the launchpad that is now located in Kazakh. In order to replace Soyuz rocket as well as Zenit and Proton, the Angara project was initialized. While initial design would be similar to Zenit-2 (but with external tanks on the side of each stage – how Kerbal!) and likewise powered by the powerful RD-170, by 1997 it evolved into a modular approach, consisting of URM-1 (which carries RD-191, or ¼ of the RD-170) as first stage/booster and URM-2 for upper stage. Aside from cargo, the A5P would have also be used to launch the Federatsiya Capsule, but seems like they will move it to be launched by Soyuz-5, which is yet another Zenit-based rocket.

Builder Notes

The re-rooting is a legacy from earlier stack assembly method where one would load-and-merge, thus the root formerly was the 1st stage’s top tank. Nonetheless, failure to re-root to an element in the payload may cause the terrier thrusters of second stage launch themselves into the tanks and explode spectacularly.

The earlier iteration with the squat tank will appear as a seperate craft file some time soon. Otherwise, this version will likely be the general shape for the forseeable future, with power proportional to the Feniks/Zenit clone (¼ of Mastadon design) while keeping a useful TWR that can fly single stack.
