Gaganyaan (India)

Description

As crew traffic from all three launch sites to various LKO outpost increase, the need of a cost effective transportation arise. While the current trend is to develop reusable spacecraft, Woomerang instead revisited the Valentis series and modernize it greatly, resulting in the “Karepan” spacecraft.

“Karepan” comes in two variety: standard edition, for customer who wants best economy; and Export edition, for KSC to have a cheap expandable crew transport to its orbital facilities

To launch it economically, the Ladle YiWCC’s first stage, combined with a pair of SRB, is used.

Real life Notes

Calling it a clone of ISRO’s Gaganyaan (Sanskrit for Sky Vehicle) is a bit of a stretch, especially when considering its spherical return module. However, If one consider that the layout of the Gaganyaan is to be similar to Soyuz’s return capsule, and there are technology transfer between India and Russia, then it is possible for the Gaganyaan command module being a conical Soyuz return capsule.

Alternatively, I am trying to justify the existence of a craft using a KV-3 capsule to make a minimum-cost LKO transport that still can change inclinations – in my career game, I actually have stations that does not lie close to 0 degree. The Export edition exist purely to satisfy the looks-and-feels – it is not as balanced as the standard edition.

In comparison to the export edition, the standard edition is even more removed from Gaganyaan. As stated, this is the original design as an attempt for craft using a KV-3 capsule to make a minimum-cost LKO transport that still can change inclinations. Due to forgoing looks, the performance of standard edition is much higher and more balanced.
