Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.5.1- Making History DLC
- Squad (stock). Root part is Mk2Pod. (DLC REQUIRED)
Replica of:
Soyuz VI + Nuclear Soyuz rocket (YARD)
Description
In order to justify the usage of military funding, the “Dongmeng Vincat” is made to be able to “intercept and destroy orbital threats”. Using a combination of “Dongmeng”’s component with the “Upriser YiX”’s command module, the space craft is equipped with 2x unguided rockets with effective range of 600m. In order to ensure its ability to operate in the dark side of Kerbin, the service module had been modified to utlized the experimental RTG Nuclear Generator.
In order to have the huge amount of delta V to change inclination and intercept threats, the Dongmeng Vincat is usually launched by Ladle-N, consisting of 6 enhanced booster surrounding a NERV powered core.
Due to its purpose as a self-contained spacecraft, it contains no docking port
To Launch missile:
Use SAS to lock on to target. When target is within 600m (500m prefered), press either [1] or [2]
Real-Life Notes
The Soyuz VI is a nuclear powered military spacecraft studied in the 60s to determine the usefulness of manned military space flight. While Almaz was to conduct observation experiments, Soyuz VI would conduct military research, as well as orbital inspection and destruction of enemy satellites. So like the MOL it referenced, the Soyuz VI featured a dock in the heatshield for access to the orbital/experimental module
As for the Nuclear Soyuz rocket, which I believe is actually called YaKHR-2
, I only see two examples:
- Nick’s Steven Page on YaRD . This is what I used for the replica initially
- Both Astronautix’s page on N1 and YaKHR-2 provided the rest of the details. The YaRD refers to the nuclear engine, properly known as
YaRD OKB-456
. The Nuclear R7 is basically what eventually lead to the N1 that we know, in that Nuclear R7 (as shown here) evolved intoSuperraket
, which is basically an N1 with a second stage that have 2 of these YaRD engines, until it was changed to use conventional LOX/Keroscene engines, with the planned Superraket put to the backburner asN-II
.
This build is definitely one of those created for the sake of of a replica with RTG. I really have no need for an orbital missile-launcher; in fact I actually created other versions – one having a docking port (this one did not have one due to how silly the Kerbal would access it); another having a KLAW on top, and one Progress-crossover with a fuel tank instead of the CM.
The original name was referenced to my Dongmeng (Soyuz) and the Upriser (Gemini) clone. Any other possible meaning is pure coincidence.
