The ‘A’ Variant of the CV family of crew vehicles is designed for crew transfer to LKO stations. This variant therefore lacks large fuel reserves, large power generation and robust communication equipment. The A-model has upgraded avionics to allow autonomous operation.
The CV-3A is launched on the Griffin T2, this requires the launch profile to be steep to accommodate the under-powered upper stage
