Description

A stock rocket called [BLS] Broadsword Blk VI v2. Built with 774 of the finest parts, its root part is probeStackLarge. This lifter was designed with the SLS in mind. It has three mission architectures as follows:

Full Recovery: Core Booster Lands, Upper Stage Lands - Max Lift Capacity ~120 tons
Core Booster Recovery: Core Booster Lands, Upper Stage Expendable - Max Lift Capacity ~200 tons
Full Expendable Mode: Core and Upper Stage Lost - Max Lift Capacity ~280 tons

The SRBs are expendable since it takes too long for them to land under parachutes before the core stage gets out of render range. SRB separation occurs at T+00:01:03 at which point the booster core will experience slight deceleration. To land the booster core, separate the second stage when the last orange tanks on the core are approximately ½ - ¾ full of fuel depending on payload mass. Put the upper stage on a trajectory out of the atmosphere and switch back to core stage. The core does not RTLS. Use required fuel to put the core stage on a trajectory to land on the peninsula on the other side of the continent from KSC. Once that is set, nothing to it but to allow the stage to reenter, deploy legs and bring the booster down to a nice easy landing. I try to deploy the landing gear around 75 m/s and make sure you keep throttle on the booster to help the stock landing gear rotate downward. HOLD SHIFT during leg deployment since the the engines shutdown every time a leg docks. It is best to shoot for around 3-4 thousand units of Liquid Fuel remaining during landing phase after boost maneuver to ensure you have enough to land the rocket.

Best of luck and I hope you enjoy!

Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.2.2.
