Description

[Abort] hibernate

KISS-II is an upgrade of my original Kerbal Interplanetary Space Station that comes with a complete set of Minimus launchers, making it easier for the first-time space station builder to get into orbit. It is also simpler to assemble.

Solar is the sixth kind of launch and provides the space station with solar power.

KISS-II is comprised of the following components, to be launched in sequence:

  1. KISS-II Asterisk
  2. KISS-II Observatory
  3. KISS-II Cupola
  4. KISS-II Orangutan
  5. KISS-II Lab Hab
  6. KISS-II Solar

Note: All launchers are rated for polar orbit.

Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.11.2.

Deployment:

  • use Resources LF check box to open all tanks; pin open the X200
  • 1/3 power; SAS Hold; Ignition
  • 20 m/s SAS Sfc Pro
  • when nose has pitched down to 45 deg go full power
  • AP 50km coast
  • 45km full power AP 75 (don’t use more than half the X200
  • 70km stage first fairing and warp momentarily to rid it
  • stage fairing 2 & payload [Abt]
  • payload AP T-30 burn for circ
  • deploy panels [5]
  • return to S1 for recovery; S1 Radial Out and [B]
  • return to Solar and maneuver for KISS-II; use Finch to finalize if necessary
  • in close proximity bleed fuel from X200 into all boom tanks; retract the panels; stage the panel trusses
  • rotate the Puffing Billy 90 deg around its longitudinal axis and then fire deorbit retros
  • put back into hibernation to save charge for SAS Hold under final parachutes
  • return to the space station and use the Finch to dock the trusses

CONGRATULATIONS!! You are now READY for business!
You do have two options:

  1. de-orbit the Finch and remain in LKO
  2. or dock the Finch to the Cupola module; refuel with LF (very little OX) and then resituate elsewhere; e.g. Mun, Minmus, Duna…

My calculations are that KISS-II* potentially has 4.2 km dV…
