More fun than I bargained for…
Hopscotch is an ORB-derivative built for Duna.
Its purpose, of course, is to mine fuel to supply other vehicles. You could try top-docking on the ground but I prefer to use Telemagic to refuel within 30m. Comes equipped with an SSM in the lander can bay.
Hopscotch is capable of doing 60-degree hops only. (This is actually where the fun enters!) It’s also capable of making short, tactical hops for close-quarters repositioning.
There is some technique involved in making a hilly landing. Retro-cushion the landing sufficiently to allow a second or two to orient one of the landing legs down the fall line
. Reduce thrust to allow an orderly settlement.
Don’t forget to extend the landing legs before touchdown. Don’t forget to repack the chutes (from the top of the ladder) before the next ‘hop’. Don’t forget to take your snacks!

- SAS Radial Out; ignition
- 40 m/s pitch down 10deg SAS Sfc PRO
- raise AP 100 km
- jet S1; circularize NERV & Cubs
- return to S1 and ride it to recovery
