Entirely experimental although based on anecdotes from Galileo I experience, this model sports twin chutes.
DynaWhirl Launch/Recovery Sequence
- SAS Hold; ignition
- 30 m/s; SAS Sfc Prograde
- when attitude has pitched down 40deg: full throttle
- raise AP to 90-100 km, then cut throttle
- 70km, apply spoilers [B]; pitch down to the horizon; fire S1 until empty; stage
- switch to S1 and set a KAC 10m timer for recovery
- switch back to S2 and burn to the horizon until ascent rate becomes zero
- jettison auxiliary MP tank when exhausted
- pitch up 40 deg to maintain a zero sink rate
- circularize
- switch back to S1 (via KAC) to ride down for recovery
ECO 2022-11-09 Galileo II now comes atop the new DynaWhirl launcher. It’s all-up mass has also been slightly reduced. Chutes have been upgraded for safe landings with both kerbs still aboard.
