1:HORZ 2:VERT 3:STOP

An outgrowth of (mad) research with its predecessors, Salamander and Delta, Enigma is the state of the (mad) art in lunar travel.

Enigma is mounted atop a Simplicity lifter and can go to the Mun or Minmus without a refuel. (It can also dock in space, given a Baby dock correspondent.)

Runways are not required! A conventional tail-sitter landing can be employed, bringing the craft to a halt 50m, say, above the terrain and then performing a transition to a descending hover for touch-down.

Retract the gear, once parked, to facilitate pax un/loading.

Successful runway operations in lo-grav will earn you a Master Diploma: it helps to have a target at the other end of the runway to lock SAS onto once very low, just before touch-down; but keeping landing speed <20-30 m/s is highly recommended and then using the Retard Twitches to halt the landing roll.

Note that HORZ mode engages the HORZ drive and also toggles VERT as a subsidiary mode, using the cockpit ref. (Pilots are recommended to tap ‘F’ SAS Hold before leaving VERT mode.) Similarly, VERT mode engages VERT drive and subsidiarily toggle HORZ drive, all using an SAS Radial Out reference.

To shutdown all engines, switch to HORZ drive, ensuring the VERT drive is then toggled off; then switch Stop on, then off.
