Description
Bologna is an expansion of Egg.
When you scale up the volume of the S4-512 tank inside to that of the whole fairing, er tank
, you get storage capacity for:
* 3.6 million kals LF
* 4.4 million kals OX
Yes, that’s a total of 8 million kallons of fuel. Strictly No Smoking.
Why am I doing this? I have placed an Atlas III into operation at Minmus. It’s able to lift so much fuel, I need a decent size reservoir in orbit. I will be starting operations for Minmus interplanetary departures.
Two ways to access the internal tank for fuel pumping:
1. camera zoom inside and R-click to select (fiddly)
2. mark the LF checkbox in the Resources panel; pin the three tanks open; uncheck the LF box; open other tanks; if the internal tanks get minimized, just pass the cursor over that LF checkbox in Resources to pop them properly open (also fiddly)
Launch Procedure
- pin Bologna payload tank and Dreadnought central S3 open
- SAS Sfc HOLD and ignition
- 120 m/s, select Sfc PRO
- raise AP to 80 km
- at 36km, when SAS auto-selects ORB, instantly revert to Sfc
- use low throttle to maintain AP:80
- at 50km, jettison nose cone
- plot circularization
- at 70km, set Brakes
- begin circularization; jettison S1 (Twin Boars) when exhausted
- pump all fuel from S2 S3 tank up into the Bologna payload tank
- raise PE:-280; jettison Dreadnought S2 (Mammoth); set a KAC timer on it
- circularization complete; return to Dreadnought S2 and ride it to recovery
ECO-2023-06-14 Major overhaul improves launch reliability (1.11.2); now mounted on a SuperDreadnought; single internal tank
